Current Projects:

– Psychological and Personality Profiles of Political Extremists

In collaboration with Michael Macy and Ingmar Weber, and building on Twitter data of over 350K followers of US political extremists, we have used text mining, machine learning, and crowdsourcing to infer the psychological and personality profiles of extremists. By comparing the followers of extremists to other control groups such as random users and followers of non-extremist but political groups, we are exploring whether extremists have distinct psychological and personality profile. In addition, we are investigating the network characteristics of the followers of extremists.

– Psychological Indicators of Susceptibility to Nationalist Appeals

Longstanding theoretical debates about the features and causes of nationalism have recently resurfaced over efforts to explain Donald Trump’s presidential campaign in US and Brexit in UK.  Drawing on a large scale Twitter data of nationalists, we are investigating the psychological and personality attributes of nationalist individuals.
